Agistri

Agistri is a pine-covered tourist island of Greece with an area of ​​11.97 square kilometers at an altitude of 294 meters, southwest and at a distance of 3.5 kilometers from the port of Aegina, with 1,142 inhabitants (in the 2011 census). In the summer months with the arrival of tourists, the number of inhabitants reaches 5,000 [citation needed]. It belongs to the Prefecture of Attica and is located in the heart of the Saronic Gulf. There are four villages on the island: Megalochori or Mylos (country of the island), Skala (the natural port where ferries from Piraeus / Aegina approach), Limenaria and Metochi.

The island has a daily ferry connection with Piraeus. The duration of the trip by ferry is 1.5 hours while with the “Flying dolphin” 55 minutes. The ferry connection with Piraeus started in 1960 while until then boats were used from / to Aegina. The inauguration of the new port in Megalochori took place on September 1, 2006. The new port was built for the decongestion of the main port of Skala and the general upgrade of tourism on the island. The flying dolphins of the ferry connection with Piraeus today approach the new port in Megalochori.

Beaches
On the island there are many beautiful beaches with the most important:

Skala, a sandy and shallow tourist beach on the northeast side of the island. There is also the natural port where the ferries of the ferry connection with Piraeus and Aegina arrive. On the beach of Skala there are hotels, restaurants and cafes.
The beach of Megalochori, which is the sandy beach in the settlement of Megalochori or Mylos, the country of the island in the north.
Dragonera, a pebble pristine beach on the west side of the island which is easily accessible by road. It is surrounded by pine forest and on the left there is an outdoor canteen.
The neighboring beaches of Skliri and Halikiada, which are located west, following the narrow path from the Port of Skala where the ferry arrives from Aegina / Piraeus. First is Skliri beach and then the completely isolated beach of Halikiada. The pristine beach of Halikiada is a nudist beach, completely isolated and difficult to access.
Mareza, a rock beach on the sea, ideal for swimming, located west of the island, in the village of Limenaria.
Aponisos, a shallow beach between the private island of Aponisos and Agistri.
Hiking Routes
